Hillcrest cross country team started the season out strong with the varsity girls recieving a team medal for placing 3rd overall at the annual Tiger Grizz Invitational at Freeman Park on Sept. 9, 2016. There were over 40 different schools at this invitational.
The Hillcrest varsity boys also ran very well at this invitational. The boys placed 11th out of the many teams that ran this race. Last year the team lost some very fast senior varsity runners, but there is one particular Senior who is taking on the legacy of great runners.
Senior Justin Graham has ran all 4 years of cross country, and has loved every single minute of it. Throughout the years Graham has had to overcome many difficult injuries creating challenges for himself. Graham says, “I’ve had lots of injuries, but ready for a good injury free season!”
Hillcrest Senior Emma Nelson has also has ran cross country all 4 years and is excited for a new season. Nelson says, “I am very excited for my last season of cross country and all the memories that I will be making with my team. We are traveling to a lot of places this year, so we will be spending quite a bit of time together.”
Nelson is excited for the meet schedule this season, they will be traveling long distances to different meets in Seaside, Oregon, and Boise, Idaho.
Hillcrest cross country is hoping for a very successful season.
