The stress is finally over. The 2016 Civil War with Hillcrest Knights rivalry with the Bonneville Bees ended on Sept. 9. The Knights dominated Bonneville and won with a score of 28-7. Hillcrest keeps the title and wins once again!
The game was flat out intense. They kicked off the game with a helicopter landing into the stadium with Local News 8’s Jeff Landers delivering the game ball. The Hillcrest student section was loud, and crazy. Everyone was screaming “I believe we will win” and loaded with school colors, red face paint, and a whole lot of excitement.
The whole stadium was packed on both sides! They even had to open the area north of the end zone for extra seating. It became standing room only.
Sophomore Hailey Rich commented, “My favorite part was when the helicopter came, and when we all blew the baby powder.”
Hillcrest Sophomore, Maddie Swenson said, “The game was so much fun! Everyone was tightly packed together screaming and jumping for Hillcrest!”
After a score of 0-0 at halftime, the Knights really came back with a vengeance. The team scored the first touchdown of the game in the third quarter, creating a 6-0 score.
After Bonneville returned with a touchdown and successful extra point kick, the Knights took control of the game scoring three more touchdowns. One touchdown was a follow through of an interception catch by Sophomore Oakley Hussey.
The game was over for Bonneville at that point, and that could be seen as Bonneville fans began exiting the stadium.
At the end of the fourth quarter with two minutes left, everyone had gathered down at concessions area to run out onto the field.
Once the game ended Hillcrest students run out on the field, climbed on the goal posts, and gave the posts a new red paint job. Sophomore Jordan Peterson, and Varsity football player, ran around the field happy and shirtless with his spraypainted abs.
Hillcrest walked away with a win, and the goal posts remain red.
