Our Hillcrest Knights defeated the Rigby Trojans with a final score of 39-29 on Sept. 11. The student section cheered harder than ever, which encouraged their boys on to victory. Hillcrest was able to hand Rigby their first loss of the season.
The homecoming game is debatably the second most important football game, just behind the Civil War. The Rigby Trojans defense was no match for the Hillcrest Knights, specifically senior running back Porter Empey and senior quarterback Bridger Blakeslee.
The entire game was action packed and kept all fans on the edge of their seat. The Trojans may have scored first, but Hillcrest was able to come back with an eight yard play by Porter Empey and a successful two point conversion. This was able to give the Knights a lead that they would never surrender.
Blakeslee was able to crush Rigby by averaging 12 yards per carry for a personal total of 188 yards. Empey was close behind running 150 yards during the game.
As expected with a homecoming game, the Knights student section was just as on fire as the football team. With an overflowing student section, the cheers, both old and new, were as loud as ever. There was an amazing performance at half time that included the band, knightline, cheerleaders, and the ballroom team. Homecoming royalty made a grand entrance to the background noise of their peers cheering them on.
For the approximately 31 seniors on the football team, this will be a homecoming win that they will remember forever.
